Once a year, we open the studio. Not a gallery opening — the actual workspace, with all the failed prototypes still on the shelves and coffee rings on every surface. People seem to find this reassuring.

The most common question we get: how do you know when something is done? The honest answer is that you don't, entirely. There's a moment where continuing to work on something stops improving it and starts changing it. That's usually when we stop. Sometimes we've gone past it. Those pieces stay in the studio.

The second most common question: is that supposed to look like that? Yes. Almost always yes.

This year's open day is in October. If you're in Cincinnati, you're welcome. We'll have coffee and the embarrassed bowl will be there, as always, quietly questioning its existence.
